THE GREENVILLE -LAKE VILLAGE BRIDGE

A SHORT HISTORY

This is a 1940's postcard of the Greenville-Lake Village Bridge.

The back of the card reads,

"Greenville-Lake Village Bridge, 2 1/2 miles

long spans the Mississippi River on U. S.

Highway 82; was constructed at a cost of

$4,447,000 and opened for traffic October 5th

1940, is surrounded by the world's largest

cotton plantations, beautiful lakes and true

Southern hospitality."

The bridge is in the process of being replaced. A new five lane bridge

is under construction down river about 1 quarter of a mile. Here is a link to the informative

website on the new Greenville bridge.
